It has been a full two weeks – and I am again writing this in the air on a beautiful Sunday afternoon in South Florida hoping to get home tonight because there is an ice storm headed to Chicago which is where I need to be changing planes, sadly. One of the School of Medicine’s students has been honored with a top prize from the University. Anand Reddi has received the 2013 Thomas Jefferson Student Award, which recognizes those who represent the ideals of the third president of the United States by demonstrating excellence in academic responsibilities while contributing outstanding service to the wider community. Anand, an MD candidate scheduled to graduate in 2014, has worked to protect commitments for the provision of HIV drugs in resource-limited settings.
The National MS Society notified a team of researchers at the School of Medicine last week that they were selected to receive a “Collaborative Research Center Award,” which provides five years of support supplementing existing grants. I would like to congratulate the first cohort of 11 teams to participate in the Institute for Healthcare Quality, Safety and Efficiency’s Certificate Training Program. The CTP is an intensive 12-month training program for clinical leaders that provides faculty and staff with the skills necessary to improve patient care within clinical units, programs
Finally, Lilly Marks, executive vice chancellor of the Anschutz Medical Campus, provided an excellent response to those (like a former Governor of Colorado) who would question the value of the investment in a high-quality health-care campus. It was well done!
