Fee waivers are automatically granted to applicants who have an AMCAS fee waiver ( obtained through the AAMC Fee Assistance Program). This information is forwarded to us by AMCAS. FAP is the only fee waiver accepted and the University of Colorado does not have an additional fee waiver program.   

All letters must be transmitted electronically through AMCAS. Please do not submit any paper or electronic letters of recommendation to the Office of Admissions. Please visit the AMCAS website for information on how to submit letters of recommendation through their services.
Applicants are required to obtain letters to support their candidacy for admission. We require three to five letters; letters can come from a faculty member, clinical experience, research experience, or a current job.

No. We receive your official grades via the AMCAS application. 

The oldest MCAT result accepted for applicants is the January three years prior to intended matriculation. For example, for applicants intending to matriculate in July of 2025, the oldest MCAT accepted would be from January of 2022.

We regret that with more than 10,000 applicants we are unable to provide individual feedback on applications. However, we offer an opportunity each year to register for a general feedback session offered by our admissions team. It is available to all applicants.

As a state institution, Colorado residents are a high priority; however, we also encourage applicants from other states to apply. We do not have a specific requirement or quota for Colorado residents. Every new class is a mix of roughly half Colorado residents and half non-Colorado residents.

The University of Colorado School of Medicine accepts transfer students with advanced standing from another LCME-accredited medical school in very rare circumstances. 

Each transfer student admitted into the medical school with advanced standing must have their original medical school application as well as their academic history and credentials from a LCME-accredited medical school reviewed and approved by the Admissions Committee prior to being accepted into the University of Colorado School of Medicine. Given the unique Trek Curriculum at the University of Colorado School of Medicine, transfers into the medical school are extremely difficult.

Transfer requests are reviewed on a case-by-case basis by a committee chaired by the Assistant Dean of Admissions that includes the Assistant Dean of Medical Education from each phase. Note that the curriculum at the University of Colorado School of Medicine rarely aligns perfectly with another medical school – therefore, students requesting a transfer should be aware that transfer into the University of Colorado School of Medicine may require repeating various aspects of the curriculum that may have already been completed at one’s original medical school.

A transfer may also alter the year of one’s original planned graduation given the unique timing of our curricular elements. CUSOM does not accept transfer students into the final year of the curriculum.
