HOST Program

Help Our Students Travel

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, residency interviews were conducted virtually in 2020. Thank you to our alumni who connected virtually to speak with students.

HOST invites alumni to welcome fourth-year medical students into their homes for a night or two during residency interviews.  Alumni volunteers also offer advice about residency training, prospective medical centers, and the communities in which students are interviewing.

Students register here to participate in HOST →

Alumni who would like to participate should register with the Alumni Relations Office or call 303-724-2518 or contact us by email: healthalumni@cuanschutz.edu

HOST FAQs:

How often may I use the HOST program? We ask that students limit their travel requests to ten times so that we are able to accommodate as many students as possible.  As we continue to add alumni to our database, we may increase this request limit.

Who are the HOST volunteers? All hosts are alumni graduates of the University of Colorado School of Medicine; our growing alumni base also inlcudes residents, interns and fellows who received training here.

Where are HOSTs available?  Our database has alumni from coast to coast with larger concentrations of alumni in the following states: Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Nevada, Washington, Washington, D.C., Minnesota, Texas, California, and Arizona.  With over 15,000 alumni throughout the United States, there is a potential host almost anywhere you plan to interview.

Is it possible to stay more than one day?  Yes.  Some alumni will work with your travel schedule, if you find that you need to stay an extra day to receive a better travel fare.

Is my spouse able to stay with me?  Many hosts welcome spouses, but be sure to make those arrangements prior to your visit.

What can I expect from the host?  We simply ask the host to provide overnight accommodations in their home.  Some alumni hosts may go beyond this to offer other travel needs, including: transportation to and from interviews and airports; home cooked meals; tours of the area; and professional insight on the area's medical community and your prospective medical center.

How do I sign up for the HOST program?  Contact the Office of Alumni Relations at 303-724-2518 or email healthalumni@ucdenver.edu.  We will work to find an alumni host for your travel requirements and provide their contact information.

What do I do if my travel or interview plans change or get cancelled?  Contact your host as soon as possible with your updated plans.

Do I need to do anything after returning from my interview travel?  Absolutely! Please send a thank you note to the alumnus who hosted your stay.  Then, contact the Office of Alumni Relations with any information, photos or other positives experiences.

Thank you!
