Leadership Support

Faculty Relations offers several services to supervisors, program directors, department chairs, division and section heads, and other University of Colorado School of Medicine Leaders to help manage faculty relations and behaviors.  The Office of Faculty Relations strongly encourages all supervisors to use the Vanderbilt Framework when addressing lapses in professional behavior and  conduct. Faculty Relations staff offer the follow services to CU SOM leaders:

  • Receive one-on-one coaching for any question that arises related to faculty performance or behavior. A confidential sounding board for leaders is always just a phone call away.
  • Learn about options, precedent, policy, and procedures.
  • Gain insight into how to best manage faculty evaluations.
  • Get information on an individual’s history of unprofessional conduct and guidance if that individual is being considered for a leadership role.

Letters of expectation, probation/administrative leave, termination

  • Receive assistance with drafting letters of expectation and guidance related to initiating probation/administrative leave, or termination due to behavioral complaints to help ensure the level of restorative action is consistent with policy and precedent.

Annually, Faculty Relations provides supervising leaders information regarding:

  • Number of allegations of unprofessional conduct
  • Number of acknowledged/confirmed and remediated unprofessional conduct episodes
  • Number of bad faith reporting episodes
