The University of Colorado Department of Anesthesiology distinguishes itself through an unwavering commitment to the wellbeing of its academic faculty members, clinicians, researchers, residents, students and staff.

Our wellbeing program stands alone in its evidence-based methods, which include:

  • Providing immediate safeguards to address and prevent faculty burnout,
  • Creating a customizable call-schedule that allows for flexibility and balance,
  • Debriefing unanticipated clinical outcomes in a supportive, caring environment to prevent healthcare team second victims,
  • Providing faculty with mentors with shared academic interests to help with career planning and promotion,
  • Allocating academic time to all faculty to allow for non-clinical pursuits,
  • Offering a unique retreat-based wellbeing program to residents and fellows, building a foundation of skills and peer support in early career,
  • Offering a broad range of wellbeing resources, initiatives, and activities that address multiple dimensions of wellbeing for all members of the department.

As a department, we value our people and work continually finding innovative pathways to better their professional and personal lives. We recognize how critical it is to care for those who serve our patients (and the people who support them), and we are committed to ongoing support of these initiatives.
