Our didactics curriculum has been revamped recently due to social distancing requirements of COVID-19. We took this as an opportunity to enhance our echo education as well as provide additional structured learning opportunities for fellows.
Echo Rounds
Our weekly echo rounds provide an opportunity for discussion of interesting echo findings for fellows to review with faculty and for all faculty members and fellows to keep up to date with new findings in the department every week.
Cardiac Anesthesia Lecture Series
The field of cardiothoracic anesthesiology extends well beyond transesophageal echocardiography training and our longitudinal lecture series provides a comprehensive review of essential cardiothoracic anesthesiology topics.
Morbidity and Mortality Conference
Occurring monthly, our M&M conference is fellow-led and will review all M&M cases for the cardiothoracic section.
Journal Club
Occurring monthly, fellows will moderate journal club sessions and lead residents through the process of critically reviewing an article and drawing conclusions.
Department of Anesthesiology Grand Rounds
Occurring weekly, the Department of Anesthesiology Grand Rounds will present a wide variety of up-to-date topics in anesthesiology presented by expert faculty within the department as well as visiting professors from around the nation.
Quality & Safety Academy/Quality Improvement Project
Fellows will attend a series of workshops to build foundational knowledge in quality improvement and patient safety. The workshops are based at fellow-level and are sponsored by the Institute for Healthcare Quality Safety and Efficiency (IHQSE). In addition, fellows will participate in a multidisciplinary quality improvement project mentored by faculty throughout the year.
Educator’s Series
Fellows will attend a series of fellow-level seminars aimed at improving teaching ability of fellows from bedside chalk-talks to formal presentations to large audiences.
