In addition to the wonderful opportunities available on the Anschutz Medical Campus with the presence of the University of Colorado Hospital and Children’s Hospital Colorado, our students currently undergo clinical rotations at 14 different sites in Colorado, New Mexico, Wisconsin, Missouri, and North Carolina, with additional sites in the works.
Anschutz Medical Campus is the home of the University of Colorado Master of Science in Anesthesiology Program. Located on the Anschutz Medical Campus are the primary clinical sites for the program: University of Colorado Hospital and Children’s Hospital Colorado.
Founded in 1889, University of Colorado Hospital is part of the UCHealth system and is the flagship teaching hospital of the University of Colorado School of Medicine. It is currently a 600 bed, level-1 trauma center making it the largest, and leading health center in the Rocky Mountain Region. Recently, the U.S News & World Report ranked the University of Colorado Hospital #1 in Colorado, and nationally ranks the hospital in 11 specialties.
Students enrolled in the University of Colorado Master of Science in Anesthesiology Program will do a substantial amount of their clinical training at University of Colorado Hospital rotating through all the major adult specialties: Cardiothoracic, Vascular, OB, Neuro, Trauma, Electrophysiology, Transplant, Acute Pain, Orthopedics, and General Surgery.
Founded in 1908, Children’s Hospital Colorado is a 400+ bed, level-1 trauma, pediatric hospital that performs over 23,000 surgery per year in 24 different surgical specialties. Since the hospital’s inception, it has grown into one of the nation’s top pediatric hospitals. Recently, U.S. News & World Report has named Children's Hospital Colorado to its 2018-19 Best Children's Hospitals Honor Roll, placing Children's Colorado among the top 10 children's hospitals in the nation.
Senior students enrolled in the University of Colorado Master of Science in Anesthesia Program will spend one to two months at Children’s Hospital Colorado rotating through all the pediatric anesthesia specialties while being trained by a faculty consisting of more than 50 board certified pediatric anesthesiologists.
In addition to the excellent clinical opportunities on the Anschutz Medical Campus, the University of Colorado Master of Science in Anesthesiology Program has numerous clinical affiliations and partnerships with the leading medical centers in the Rocky Mountain Region. Currently, the program offers clinical training opportunities at the following sites: Boulder Community Hospital, Swedish Medical Center, Presbyterian/St. Luke's medical center, Penrose St. Francis Hospital – Colorado Springs, and St. Joseph’s Hospital.
University of New Mexico Hospital, located in Albuquerque, is the state’s only academic medical center, and is the flagship training site for the UNM School of Medicine. It is also the state’s only level-1 trauma center, and performs over 22,000 surgeries a year covering all major surgical specialties.
In addition to the hospital’s medical expertise in treating complex medical conditions, the UNMH also takes pride in its ability to care for a large percentage of New Mexico’s uninsured and underinsured population. Annual they provide $135 million of uncompensated care per year.
Vidant Medical Center, located in Greenville, North Carolina, is the flagship teaching hospital for the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University. The 900-bed hospital is currently the 3rd largest level-1 trauma center in the nation. Vidant Medical Center prides itself in taking care of 1.3 million people annually across 29 counties providing a full-range of medical services encompassing all of the surgical specialties. Currently, the University of Colorado is the only anesthesiologist assistant program that has a partnership with Vidant Medical Center, and is one of the few programs to have an affiliation agreement in the state of North Carolina.
