CORRECTION 

The March 8th edition of Get Psyched incorrectly attributed an increase in funding for CoPPCAP, the Colorado Pediatric Psychiatry Consultation & Access Program. We apologize for this misprint and are happy to include the following corrected information.

Dr. Sandra Fritsch is the Medical Director of the program, and has brought her expertise to the program from years of working in and establishing similar programs in other states.

CoPPCAP was recently selected to receive additional funding by the Behavioral Health Task Force, a group responsible for issuing recommendations to create and sustain transformational change in behavioral health to the Colorado General Assembly and Governor Jared Polis. Their recommendation included an allocation of funds that will allow CoPPCAP to expand, thereby increasing provider access to CoPPCAP and growing the number of Colorado youth who will benefit from its services. The bill was heard in Appropriations, unanimously passed the Senate, and is set to be heard in the House on 4/22/22.

Dr. Fritsch and the CoPPCAP team are responsible for the years of work it took to raise awareness about the opportunities to treat youth mental health, the provision of timely and comprehensive support to providers and their patients in the primary care setting, and ultimately the attainment of this increased state support. We thank them and apologize for a poorly-worded previous attribution.

Dr. Lindsay Lebin was interviewed about perinatal cannabis use and new education opportunities for trainees interested in reproductive psychiatry in Psychiatric News.

Dr. Richard Martinez was consulted for a Mother Jones article titled "Does Gail Ritchey Belong in Prison?"

Dr. Thida Thant was interviewed for a UCHealth Today article titled "Long COVID mental health challenges require specialized treatment Q&A."

Dr. Andrew Novick was interviewed as part of an expert roundtable where he provided updates in postpartum depression treatment in the publication Psychiatry Advisor.

Dr. Amy Lopez was interviewed for a feature in a CU Anschutz Today story. The title of the piece was "A Guide to Dealing with Grief and Loss" and Dr. Lopez offered advice on coping with losing a loved one.

Dr. Robin Gabriels and her research on horse therapy and Autism were featured in the first video of the series.

The CU Anschutz CommunicationsTeam is launching a new series titled "Ready, Set, Know" that puts research in layman's terms.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH

With a PCORI COVID Supplement, the University of Maryland Institute for Implementation and Innovation, Children's National, and CU Anschutz Department of Psychiatry engaged a stakeholder team of parents and school staff to create and test a series of free parent support videos and tip sheets. These short videos are designed to give parents help to build new executive functioning skills. Dr. Laura Anthony, Dr. Bruno Anthony (co-investigator), Dr. Jessica Holmes (PRA), and Tennyson Dahlman (PRA) are also involved in this project.

AWARDS

Dr. Fernand Lubuguin received the 2021 Ancora Imparo Award in recognition of outstanding and inspirational contributions to intern training from the Clinical Psychology Internship Program, Department of Family Medicine, CUSOM.

Dr. Helen L. Coons has been invited to represent the American Psychological Association on the American Psychiatric Association's Advisory Panel on the Mental Health Care of Pregnant Women with Mental Illness.

Dr. Bonnie Camp, MD '65, pediatrician, graduate of the CU School of Medicine and generous benefactor, whose work on developmental standards were widely adopted by the profession, will receive a university medal.

Nancy Gary, advocate for improved mental health care for children and master's graduate of the Child Health Associate program of our School of Medicine, will receive an honorary degree.

PRESENTATIONS

Clint Carlson will run an eLCC keynote session titled "Morning Discussion: Education during Humanitarian Crises and War" where he will be interviewing leadership from Pechersk School International Kyiv, Ukraine, an international school now educating fully remote from other countries in Eastern Europe about their current experience and resiliency.

He will also present "Social-Emotional VR Avatars for Safe-Space Conversations and Soft-Skill Training" highlighting his ongoing work on simulated social-emotional triggered conversations with patients.
