Forensic Psychiatry is an American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology subspecialty where scientific and clinical expertise in psychiatry and psychology is applied in legal contexts involving civil, criminal, correctional, regulatory, and legislative matters.
The CU Forensic Psychiatry Services and Training Program boasts nationally recognized interdisciplinary faculty with diverse sub-specialty expertise in forensic psychiatry and forensic psychology. As part of the Department of Psychiatry’s Division of Community, Population, and Public Mental Health, our Faculty are dedicated to building a mental health system that is accessible, equitable, evidence-based, and excellent.
Our faculty advance the practice, teaching, and scholarship of forensic psychiatry:
Forensic expert assessments and consultation at the interface of psychiatry/psychology and the law including through our Professional Medical-Legal Consultation Program
Educational programs for an accredited Forensic Psychiatry Fellowship programs well as, general psychiatry residents, medical students, and other mental health professionals
Provide psychiatric care in correctional and forensic settings
Serve as academic leaders across multiple areas in forensic psychiatry and psychology
Contribute to committees, legislative initiatives, and national organizations
