BBICen Presents at the CU Innovations Showcase Expo Event. 10/4/2024

On October 4th, 2024, BBICen pillar leaders Allison Dempsey (Technology) and Tiffany Love (Care Re-Design) participated in the CU Innovations Showcase Expo to highlight BBICen's many exciting initiatives. They were joined by Clint Carlson (Director of Educational Technology) to demonstrate his Social-Emotional Avatar Simulations, which aim to promote better public health communication and education.
The showcase was part of the President’s Innovation & Entrepreneurship Initiative hosted by the CU Anschutz Medical Campus, aimed at leveraging systemwide innovation and entrepreneurship to generate substantial real-world impact. The showcase featured over 35 CU innovators and their groundbreaking work. The event also included in-depth presentations from each campus, a panel on how innovation is shaping Colorado’s future, and breakout discussions on topics like quantum AI, community resilience, aging, health care, workforce development, and higher education.

CU President Todd Saliman highlighted CU's role in Colorado’s innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem during his keynote address, emphasizing the university's unique position to connect with labs, startups, and industries across the state. The event attracted hundreds of attendees from the CU and broader communities, including U.S. Rep. Greg Lopez and Colorado state Rep. Eliza Hamrick.

Telehealth and Technology Advances for Mental Health Care | 08/17/2023

A Collaboration between BBICen, the Arizona Telemedicine Program, and the Southwest Telehealth Resource Center, the Telehealth and Technology Advances for Mental Health Care was held at the Anschutz Health Science Building (AHSB) on August 2023. This meeting included a number of local speakers as well as a keynote lecture by John Torous, MD, who is Director of Digital Psychiatry at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center at the Harvard School of Medicine.

This live activity is designed to inform Colorado healthcare professionals about innovations in telehealth

technology and practice, including identification of settings and patient populations in which the

technology is superior, equal or inferior to conventional practice and implementation approaches and

tools for mental health treatment using telehealth. Specific topics include key telehealth policy issues for

the state of Colorado, applications and remote mental health technology, XR simulations, AI in practice,

and videoconferencing issues.

The learning objectives for the meeting were 4-fold:

1) Apply tele-mental health best practices in the clinical integration of telehealth services as applicable.

2) Recognize how to implement tele-mental health in a way that promote equitable access to care.

3) Utilize telemedicine technologies to provide mental healthcare services to a range of patients mixing different technologies and platforms.

4) Differentiate strengths and limitations to applying telemental health in various clinical scenarios.
