Welcome to the Orthopedic Surgery Interest Group (OSIG)

As a student interest group at the University of Colorado School of Medicine, our primary goal is to support our members in their exploration and understanding of the dynamic field of orthopedic surgery.

Founded in 2008, we were established to cater to the burgeoning interest of medical students in orthopedics. Our mission revolves around offering enriching educational experiences, valuable research prospects, and the guidance of esteemed faculty members.

Our calendar is centered around several key events that provide crucial insights into the world of orthopedics. These cornerstone events include skills and anatomy workshops, interdisciplinary cases, and social events. In addition, these events are complemented by a series of supplementary activities and lectures throughout the academic year, ensuring that our members are consistently engaged and informed about the latest developments in the field. These events also afford our members exclusive access to the perspectives of current residents and accomplished faculty members.

Acting as a bridge between students and faculty, our group plays a pivotal role in fostering collaborations between students and department faculty on ongoing research initiatives. We take pride in nurturing a culture of both peer-to-peer and faculty mentorship, which equips our members with invaluable guidance as they embark on their orthopedic journeys. For more formal guidance, our members can turn to Dr. Frank Scott, a dedicated faculty mentor who provides expert advising.

Our experienced senior members further contribute by sharing their insights into the transition from medical school to orthopedic surgery residency. Their practical advice offers a unique student perspective that is immensely valuable to those considering this path.

Joining our group is straightforward – simply become part of our group email list by sending a message to orthosig@gmail.com. By doing so, you'll gain priority access to events with limited capacity, ensuring you don't miss out on any enriching opportunities.

As the landscape of orthopedic surgery continues to evolve, we remain committed to providing our members with the tools, knowledge, and connections they need to thrive in this exciting field. Whether you're a novice with a budding interest or a seasoned enthusiast, our student interest group at the University of Colorado School of Medicine is here to support your journey into orthopedic surgery.
