Sports Medicine Center at Children’s Hospital Colorado 

The Sports Medicine Center at Children’s Hospital Colorado leads the region in state-of-the-art treatment for developing athletes. The fully integrated team of physicians, athletic trainers, physical therapists, dieticians, and specialists deliver a full-service care experience geared exclusively to growing bodies.

Research activities aim to reduce the risk of pediatric and adolescent athletic injuries and to improve treatment outcomes so that athletes may prepare, perform, recover, and repeat. Projects include retrospective outcomes studies, prospective randomized treatment protocols, and observational assessments.

Research Team

Jay Albright, MDJay C. Albright, MD, Surgical Director of the Sports Medicine Center, is assisted by Hannah Rossing (RA). His research focuses on surgical outcomes of arthroscopic knee, ankle, shoulder, and elbow procedures, knee biomechanics, and return to sport for adolescent athletes.
Aubrey Armento, MDAubrey Armento, MD, is assisted by Madison Brna (RA). Her research focuses on injury risk reduction and clinical outcomes for pediatric and adolescent runners. 
 

David. R. Howell, PhD, ATC
David R. Howell, PhD, ATC, Lead Researcher of the Sports Medicine Center, is assisted by Madison Brna (RA), and Claire Giachino (RA). His primary research interests pertain to human movement analysis and sport-related concussions.
 
Jason Rhodes, MDJason Rhodes, MD, MS, is assisted by Meredith Lewis (RA). His research focuses on injury biomechanics and surgical outcomes for pediatric and adolescent sports injuries including patellar dislocation, tibial eminence fractures, and hip dislocations.
 
Emily Sweeney, MDEmily Sweeney, MD, is assisted by Madison Brna (RA). Her research focuses on injury risk reduction and biomechanics in women’s gymnastics and other barefoot athletics such as dance and martial arts.

Gregory WalkerGregory Walker, MD, is assisted by Madison Brna (RA). His research focuses on a variety of clinical interests including concussion and musculoskeletal injuries in youth athletes. 
 

Julie Wilson, MDJulie Wilson, MD, is assisted by Madison Brna (RA). Her research focuses on risk reduction and epidemiology of concussion and returns to the sport after concussion in pediatric and adolescent athletes.
