    More About CU Sports Medicine

    Sports Medicine Surgical Fellowship

    CU Sports Medicine is pleased to offer three 1-year post-graduate experiences in orthopaedic sports medicine and shoulder surgery. Our mission is to train academically interested future leaders in sports medicine and shoulder surgery.

    Duration: The fellowship experience is 1 year. August 1st - July 31.

    Application Deadline: December 1st each year prior to the applicable Spring match.

    • Requirements
    Fellows will be exposed to a variety of sports medicine and shoulder conditions, from simple to complex, emphasizing surgical and rehabilitation approaches.
    Fellows will have dedicated research time with opportunities in evidence based clinical medicine and basic science research. Fellows will be expected to produce at least one publishable manuscript, and will gain experience in grant writing techniques.
    Team physician experience covering two Division I collegiate athletics with the University of Colorado, Denver University, and local high schools.

    The sports medicine curriculum is based on the AOSSM curriculum for sports medicine fellows and includes weekly lectures, journal club, anatomy review with cadaver dissections, and opportunities to use a bioskills laboratory.

     
    • The stipend is commensurate with a University of Colorado Denver School of Medicine PGY-6 salary
    • The fellow is provided malpractice insurance, medical insurance (for self and dependents) and 21 days of vacation
    • The fellow is sponsored at two continuing education/academic courses
    • The fellow is sponsored to take the AOSSM fellowship or CAQ exam
    • Applicants must have completed an accredited residency program in Orthopaedic Surgery
    • Applicants must be licensed to practice in the State of Colorado and have a current DEA license
    • Fellows in our program must be a U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, asylee, or possess the appropriate documentation to allow Resident to legally train at the University of Colorado Denver School of Medicine.
