In the heart of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, at the CURE Children's Hospital, Jakob Gamboa, MD and a team embarked on a transformative journey in January this year. Their mission? To establish the inaugural self-sustaining scoliosis correction surgery program in a country home to over 120 million people. This monumental effort aimed not just at correcting spinal deformities but at igniting hope and fostering independence in Ethiopian healthcare.
