Before I came into medicine: I went into medical school right after undergrad, but prior to med school l was a tech in the ED.
What made me pursue my residency training in Anesthesiology: I found anesthesiology to be the perfect combination of critical care, procedures, and fascinating pharmacology and physiology. I also appreciate the humanistic aspect of the field and the ability to positively impact the patient's surgical experience.

Hobbies: I love scuba diving when I get the chance and enjoy pretty much anything outdoors. I like to travel and recently got back from a trip to Tokyo, Kyoto, and Osaka. I’m into house music and EDM festivals and have gone to Ultra Miami for the past four years. I also spend time lifting and getting destroyed by workout classes.
Fun facts: I grew up on a horse farm in southern central Pennsylvania, so I've spent an unfortunate amount of time mucking stalls growing up.
Before I came into medicine: I spent a gap semester working at a plasma donation center as a lab tech before starting medical school.
What made me pursue my residency training in Anesthesiology: I’m drawn to anesthesiology because of its blend of physiology, pharmacology, and procedural skills. I appreciate the dynamic nature of the field and the need to make thoughtful, real-time decisions. Beyond that, I value the privilege of safeguarding patients through some of their most vulnerable moments. I also find it meaningful to work closely with a multidisciplinary team.

Before I came into medicine: Before I started medical school, I was actually a patient transport technician at Denver Health Medical Center. It was my first opportunity to interact with patients and it was truly a valuable introduction into patient care.
What made me pursue my residency training in Anesthesiology: My first exposure to anesthesiology was as a young child having gone through multiple surgeries. As scary as the operations were, I never forgot the overall calming presence of each of the anesthesiologists as they carefully explained to me what anesthesia was and what to expect. The concept of being put to sleep within seconds blew my mind as a kid and it stuck with me ever since. Then in undergrad, I had the opportunity to conduct research with a cardiothoracic anesthesiologist and fell even more in love with the specialty. I'm excited to be the anesthesiologist I once relied on as a kid!

Fun facts: I was originally born in Romania in a region called Transylvania (aka home of Dracula) so garlic and I aren’t the best of friends. In the first 10 minutes of a multi-day canoe trip we capsized and had damp clothing the rest of the time. I also volunteer with the local dog shelters to improve intake photos!
Before I came into medicine: Between undergrad and medical school I worked for a year in Texas as a medical assistant at a family practice.
What made me pursue my residency training in Anesthesiology: I love anesthesiology for its focus on patient safety and the opportunity to care for patients during some of their most vulnerable moments. Its blend of procedures, quick decision making, and combination of anatomy and physiology makes it rewarding. You also have opportunities to work across a variety of settings from the OR, L&D, critical care, pain clinics, and perioperative medicine.

Before I came into medicine: I taught English in Thailand, worked as a phlebotomist for a plasma center, and as a medical assistant in a cardiology clinic.
What made me pursue my residency training in Anesthesiology: My first exposure to anesthesia was the first few weeks of medical school- as a patient! The calming presence of my anesthesiologist before my urgent surgery inspired me to take on the role of helping patients and their families through a stressful and vulnerable time. Like many of my colleagues, I was also drawn to working in the OR, manipulating physiology in real time, and getting to do procedures.

What made me pursue my residency training in Anesthesiology: Anesthesia brought together everything I enjoyed across different specialties. I knew I wanted a hands-on field that still required a strong foundation in medicine, and the opportunity to do both in the operating room made it the perfect fit for me.

Before I came into medicine: After graduating from college, I took two gap years at Anschutz. I spent my first year working as a scribe in the UCH ED, and I spent the second one as a clinical researcher in the Neurology Department.
What made me pursue my residency training in Anesthesiology: During my third year rotation in anesthesia, I spent a week working with a cardiothoracic anesthesiologist. I really enjoyed helping take care of the critically ill patients in a hands-on manner when they were at their most vulnerable, which helped me realize this is my dream career.

Fun facts: I am a wilderness EMT and a BLS/PALS/ACLS instructor for the American Heart Association. On a trip to Italy, I had some ravioli so good that I cried. One of my best friends on the trip responded by saying "the only other time I saw you cry was at your wedding". My high school superlative was "most likely to cause world famine" based on the fact that I ate in every class and had a seemingly endless appetite.

The specialty also affords a rare depth of focus, allowing you to dedicate your full attention to the patient in front of you during one of the most critical and vulnerable periods of their medical journey.

Fun facts: The late great artist Prince once said hi to me (his studio was in my hometown). I also have a webbed finger, but it does not make me a better swimmer.

What made me pursue my residency training in Anesthesiology: I appreciated the fact that anesthesiologists work at the intersection of several fields of medicine to provide life-saving procedural interventions and rapid patient relief. I also admired how anesthesiologists can guide patients through their perioperative encounter, making them feel comfortable during an otherwise challenging time.
