Dr. Ron-Li Liaw is featured in a US News article on how health providers are working to meet increased demands for mental and behavioral health services across the nation. "Given the great demand and a relative shortage of clinical staff to address the needs, “we're 10 years behind the eight-ball here already, and the pandemic only laid bare some of those disparities in care, access and care quality.” 

The University of Colorado’s Helen and Arthur E. Johnson Depression Center is featured in The Durango Herald.

Dr. Joel Stoddard is featured in The Gazette, where he explains the bodily and mental mechanisms behind getting "spooked" on Halloween. "Some of the more scary activities around Halloween — like haunted houses or scary movies — can trigger a threat response, Stoddard said. "When people experience a threat response, whether the threat is real or manufactured, their body — and mind — change."

Dr. Sarah Kennedy is featured in a CU Anschutz News Q&A on Traverse Academy, a first-of-its-kind collaboration between clinical partners and a school district.

Emily Hemendinger, MPH, LCSW is featured in a The Huff Post article. “Some studies have even found that sports like pickleball and racket sports can improve memory and processing speed,” Hemendinger said. Also, Hemendinger is featured in an interview for Delaware Public Radio's "The Green" on "The ‘Zoom effect’ and the connection between video calls and appearance dissatisfaction".

 

PRESENTATIONS

Emily Hemendinger, MPH, LCSW and Stephanie Lehto, PsyD presented at the School of Nursing and School of Pharmacy's Mental Health in Primary Care Conference on 10/6/23 about why eating disorders are no SCOFFing matter.

AWARDS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

Clint Carlson represented the department at AMC K-12 STEAM Exposure Day on Thursday, October 26th.

Via the Office of Educational Outreach and Pathway Initiatives, Carlson exposed local highschoolers to the Augmented Reality Brain project and all students took home a digital copy to explore the brain models in AR back at home.

K-12 STEAM Exposure Day greatly enriches the experience of our young attendees and families and gives them valuable insights into the exciting opportunities within STEAM fields and to inspire the next generation of STEAM professionals.
