Dr. Neill Epperson and Dr. Tracy Bale are featured in a CU Anschutz News article that shares how CU Anschutz continues to strengthen its focus on women's mental health research by expanding its collaborations and resources to improve the understanding of health sex differences, leading to a more specialized approach. “With the recruitment of Dr. Bale, we have increased our expertise at the intersection of physical and mental health, opening a new chapter in women’s health research.” – Judith Regensteiner, PhD
Emily Hemendinger, MPH, LCSW, is featured in a Trail Runner's magazine article on the connection between heart rate variability and mental health.“It is important to let the body complete the stress cycle,” states Hemendinger. “Rather than allowing the body to stay in chronic stress, find ways to reduce stress, such as gentle physical activity, creativity, deep breathing, and emoting.” She also recommends eating regularly, attending therapy, and finding ways to connect with others.”Dr. Ron-Li Liaw is featured in a CBS Colorado article that explains the impact of screen time and social media usage on adolescents' mental health and suicide rates. Liaw says bullying on social sites is a "huge driver of kids committing suicide or getting depressed and not wanting to go to school." She said, "In the emergency room, when we have kids who come in and are in crisis, a lot of times, it's because they've been bullied by other kids in the class or outside of school on a social media platform."
Dr. Liaw is also featured in a Denver7 News article that announces “a first-of-its-kind” mental health care facility that is set to open in the fall for Cherry Creek Schools students.
Dr. Lauren Wood and Dr. Ben Mullin are featured in a Fox21 News article that highlights the importance of increasing awareness about our youths mental health. This article mentions the importance of addressing mental health issues early on, encouraging parents and teachers to be aware of warning signs of mental health issues and seek help if needed.“There are a lot of things that can happen in the life of a child, in an adolescent, and there are a lot of things that we can do each day to try to help them feel better and encourage them to talk about their emotional health,” said Wood.
