Forensic Psychiatry is an American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology certified sub-specialty where scientific and clinical expertise in psychiatry and psychology is applied in legal contexts involving civil, criminal, correctional, regulatory, and legislative matters. The CU Forensic Psychiatry Services and Training Program consists of an interdisciplinary faculty with diverse sub-specialty expertise in forensic psychiatry and forensic psychology.

 

Our current services are involved in five main areas of activity:

  • Forensic expert assessments and consultation at the interface of psychiatry/psychology and the law
  • Direct and telehealth clinical psychiatric care in correctional and forensic settings
  • Educational programs for forensic psychiatry fellowship program, general psychiatry residents, medical students, and other mental health professionals
  • Scholarship in areas of forensic psychiatry and psychology
  • Public service involvement in committees, legislative initiatives, and national organizations
