Margo Bush

Hometown: Cleveland, OHMargo-Bush

Education history: The Ohio State University- undergrad, The University of Toledo- medical school

Hobbies: Running, cooking, golf, fishing, skiing, waterskiing.

Fun facts: While interning at my dad's work in college, I won a contest for eating the most M&Ms with chopsticks in one minute.

Before I came into medicine: I went to medical school straight from undergrad, but almost went into a career in marine biology!

What made me pursue my residency training in Anesthesiology: I enjoyed all of my rotations, and anesthesiology combines elements of every type of medicine. I loved how my anesthesia mentors were also experts in cardiology, pulm, etc.

Emma Dodd

Hometown: Boone, NC

Education history: Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Sciences, Liberty University Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, Rocky Vista University College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Hobbies: I enjoy anything that lets me trade a little suffering for mountain views—backpacking, long-distance running, skiing, and backcountry hunting. But my favorite (and most time-consuming) hobbies are chatting with my husband and cleaning my house.

Fun facts: Having grown up as a country kid, I can catch a chicken and lull it to sleep within seconds. My husband and I have a Colorado Mountain Dog named Sunny, who loves uphill skiing with me! Once, my sister and I ran a 5K as a three-legged race because we were so competitive and couldn’t bear to lose to each other. We were sore for a week.

Before I came into medicine: I spent a few years working as a medical scribe in college and before medical school, but most of my work experience was as a waitress. I also sold chocolate chip cookies at the local corner store when I was a kid.

What made me pursue my residency training in Anesthesiology: Anesthesiology combines my favorite aspects of medicine—physiology, pharmacology, hands-on procedures, and critical care medicine. I consider it an honor to care for patients during some of their most stressful and vulnerable moments. Aside from the frigid temperature, I truly enjoy the OR environment, which is filled with camaraderie, efficiency, and teamwork.

Tony Filson

Hometown: Littleton, CO

Education history: University of Colorado at Boulder - BA Colorado State University - MS University of Louisville School of Medicine - MD

Hobbies: In my free time, I enjoy chess, lifting weights, running, jiu-jitsu, bonsai trees, deep house music, dogs, and hanging out with my family.

Fun facts: A fun fact about me is I am in the top 0.01% of Vivaldi listeners on Spotify (flex).

Before I came into medicine: After my undergraduate, I pursued a Master of Science degree in Toxicology, intending to get a PhD. However, I realized I like humans more than mice and decided to switch to medical school.

What made me pursue my residency training in Anesthesiology: I may be a little biased, but I think Anesthesiology is the best specialty in medicine. We get to use really cool pharmacology and perform satisfying procedures, to guide our patient through a very stressful time in their life. The highlight for me is the short but incredibly meaningful patient interactions.

Julia Gonçalves

Hometown: Littleton, CO

Julia-Goncalves

Education history: The University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill - BS in Biology University of Colorado School of Medicine - MD

Hobbies: I love to spend time outdoors, usually hiking in the summer and snowboarding in the winter. I also love a good book and a good brewery, and occasionally I dabble in fashion design.

Fun facts: I have climbed fourteen 14ers (working on more). I'm the proud aunt of two nieces and one nephew, and I'm learning how to embroider!

Before I came into medicine: After college, I came home to spend time with my family and worked as a scribe in the emergency department!

What made me pursue my residency training in Anesthesiology: I love the complexity, acuity, and immediacy of anesthesia, and the opportunities it lends to hands-on intervention and meaningful relationships with patients.

Darwin Gutierrez

Hometown: Carpentersville, IL

Darwin Gutierrez

Education history: BS- Loyola University Chicago MA- Loyola University Chicago MD- UCLA David Geffen
School of Medicine

Hobbies: I’m a huge collector of original movie posters, vinyl records, and comic books! It’s a hobby that I
picked up from my frequenting comic conventions growing up as well as from my picking up movies and
comics at the library every Saturday morning as a kid with my dad. Remember: having fun isn’t hard when
you’ve got a library card (wow this reference definitely shows my age)! Apart from that I love athletics with
my weightlifting and boxing still going strong since undergrad! Finally, I have 2 cats and a dog which are
somehow my greatest loves as well as the bane of my existence. Tobey, Sasha, and Gigi if you’re reading this
I love y’all but please stop begging me for treats the second I get home!

Fun facts: I trained in professional wrestling for approximately a year and a half! It came to an end when my
Achilles tendon ruptured in addition to being accepted to a medical school across the country.

Before I came into medicine: Apart from my time in undergrad and grad school, I also worked as an EMT
from 2017-2021 in Chicago! It was a great experience and was particularly interesting to work through the
COVID lockdown.

What made me pursue my residency training in Anesthesiology: I love how anesthesiology requires
providers to be a jack of all trades. If you’re working an OB case you have to get all the respective knowledge
out and at the ready and if you’re working an urology case the exact same has to happen- and so on and so
forth. Not only that but surgery is one of the most terrifying experiences that someone can go through. The
fact that an anesthesiologist has 30 minutes to an hour to gain a patients faith in their ability to keep them
safe through the procedure is the skill that drew me to this specialty.

Elias Maloof

Hometown: Columbus, OH

Elias Maloof

Education history: B.S. Biochemistry, Miami University, summa cum laude M.D., The Ohio State University

Hobbies: In my free time, I love going on walks with my dog, playing pickle ball, golfing, skiing, yoga, running, cycling, and hiking. I also love all things food related. I can probably be found in the kitchen or at a new restaurant. My favorite food is pizza, and I even have a home pizza oven!

Fun facts: I got my first dog during my fourth year of medical school - she's excited to become a mountain dog in Colorado! I am a huge Ohio State football, Columbus Crew, and Columbus Blue Jackets fan. I love to travel, and one of my bucket list items is to travel to all seven continents.

Before I came into medicine: I did not take gap years during my schooling, but had a number of jobs throughout that time. I have worked several restaurant jobs, and did everything from serving and bartending to working in the kitchen. I also worked at a hospital as a part of a research team for several summers. While in undergrad, I worked at the tutoring center at my university, helping students with chemistry, biology, physics, and calculus. While in medical school, I worked as a dog walker during the more flexible periods.

What made me pursue my residency training in Anesthesiology: Anesthesiology combined all of my favorite parts of medicine with a workflow and patient relationship that keeps me feeling engaged and fulfilled every time I step foot in the hospital. I love the ability to nerd out about medical details one minute, then do a procedure the next, all while keeping the patient safe and comfortable along the way.

Jake Morawiec

Hometown: Littleton, CO

Jake Morawiec

Education history: I attended CU Boulder for my Bachelor's and Master's in Integrative Physiology - Sko Buffs! I then obtained my DO from Rocky Vista University.

Hobbies: Anything outside! I love snowboarding, running, backpacking, climbing, and cycling.

Fun facts: I am a coffee nerd and self proclaimed home barista currently trying to master my latte art.

Before I came into medicine: Before medical school, I spent six weeks living out of my car, backpacking and exploring every national park in Utah and Wyoming— my favorite being Grand Teton National Park.

What made me pursue my residency training in Anesthesiology: I am drawn to anesthesiology because I want the challenge of a field that utilizes all aspects of medicine including physiology, pharmacology, and procedural skills. I also loved being able to devote my attention and focus to one patient at a time.

Carrighan Perry

Hometown: Palmyra, NY

Carrighan Perry

Education history: University of Rochester, Chemistry BA - 2018; New York Medical College, MD - 2025

Hobbies: I love to cook, although I’m probably not great at it. I’m also the most casual outdoorsy person you’ll probably ever meet and I love to hike, boulder, and snowboard. And lastly, I’m a huge Philadelphia Eagles fan and consider myself a 2x Super Bowl champion.

Fun facts: I'm the middle child of six, have ridden every subway line in New York City, and know way too many fruit and vegetable codes after being a cashier for a year in high school.

Before I came into medicine: I wanted to go into medicine for as long as I can remember, but along the way, I worked in almost every department of a grocery store for eight years, spent time paving roads with my town's highway department for a summer, and then worked in a pulmonology lab before starting medical school.

What made me pursue my residency training in Anesthesiology: I initially went to school interested in critical care but was eventually exposed to anesthesia. I like how similar they are in terms of physiology, but I really love how the real-time nature of anesthesia allows for super focused and hands-on patient care. I also love that anesthesia has a good mix of high acuity cases with more routine ones on a daily basis.

Education history: B.S in Zoology at Washington State University, M.D at Washington University in St. Louis School of Medicine

Hobbies: I enjoy skiing, playing soccer, losing at chess, and hiking with my dog Ivy!

Fun facts: I have a twin brother, I'm scuba certified, and I've caught a 200lb fish.

Before I came into medicine: I came straight through college, but I've worked as a factory laborer in high school, a tutor in college, and used to split cologne bottles to make money in college

What made me pursue my residency training in Anesthesiology: I really loved the OR, hands on procedures and getting to see work take effect in real time, and the interaction of physiology and pharmacology.

Macrae Robertson

Hometown: Madison, WI

Macrae-Robertson

Education history: Wake Forest University- BS in Biology, Wake Forest University School of Medicine- MD

Hobbies: I love finding the mix of adventure, good company, and even better food. Whether thats hiking, skiing fresh powder, or hunting down the best eats in town. Music is also a constant in my life, whether it’s collecting records like their ancient artifacts or front row at a concert. Lastly, playing pickup sports and cheering on my local teams is always something I enjoy spending my free time doing.

Fun facts: I am the reigning Catan champ in my family. Long live the King!

Before I came into medicine: I taught 6th Grade Math in Denver before going to medical school.

What made me pursue my residency training in Anesthesiology: I’m drawn to the dynamic nature of anesthesiology, where each case demands quick thinking, precision, and the ability to anticipate and adapt to evolving situations. I love how the specialty seamlessly integrates hands on procedures with the art of medicine, while still allowing for quick yet meaningful connections with patients as they navigate the uncertainties of surgery.

Osman Syed

Hometown: Naperville, IL

Osman-Syed

Education history: B.S. in Molecular and Cellular Biology from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, D.O. from Midwestern University Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine

Hobbies: I started fly fishing in medical school, spending weekends in Midwest rivers with friends. I’m really into photography, and I primarily shoot on old film cameras, even the massive accordion style ones. I love specialty coffee, built a coffee and tea bar, and took classes on tea ceremonies in college.

Fun facts: I built a darkroom for developing and printing my own photos during my first year of medical school!

Before I came into medicine: During college I worked as a dispatcher for a 911 service in central Illinois before also starting to work on the ambulance. We covered a few thousand square miles in a largely rural area.

What made me pursue my residency training in Anesthesiology: My experience working on an ambulance was the biggest factor in choosing Anesthesiology. I loved working with just one patient at a time and really doing everything in your power to help them. I’ve always been a bit of a tinkerer, and the OR/ICU gives me a lot of opportunities to work with physiology and see results in real time. I really appreciate the fact that there’s not always just one right answer in anesthesiology, and that no two days are truly alike.

Ryan Turner
