CU OB-GYN Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Externship Scholarship

The University of Colorado OB-GYN Residency Program is committed to celebrating diversity in all forms.  Our mission is to foster a welcoming, inclusive program that actively employs strategies to recruit highly qualified residents from underrepresented groups in medicine to the University of Colorado.

CU OB-GYN Residency Mission Statement

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is excited to offer five scholarships to visiting fourth year medical students from underrepresented or disadvantaged backgrounds applying to OB-GYN. The scholarship is intended to help cover travel, housing, and/or personal expenses during the student’s 4-week long rotation. The purpose is to support and guide medical students from underrepresented groups who have an interest in the OB-GYN Residency Program and University of Colorado SOM.

Scholarship recipients will complete a 4-week rotation in an approved OB or GYN acting internship elective with the following benefits:

  • Each recipient will be paired with a faculty and resident mentor for support during the rotation and application process.
  • Each recipient will meet with the program director personally.
  • Funding for $1,000 for reimbursement of travel, housing, personal expenses.

Please note: Scholarships are awarded on a rolling basis and applicants will be notified of final decisions when the selection process is complete.

Eligibility

  • 4th year medical students from underrepresented backgrounds (racial, ethnic, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, gender identification) who intend to match into an OB-GYN residency program.
  • Completion of all core clerkships at a U.S. accredited medical school in good academic standing.

VSAS Application

  • CV, transcript and Step 1 score uploaded to VSAS.

Supplemental Application

  • DEI Supplemental Application with 500 word essay.​
