We offer two training tracks:

The Addiction Medicine Fellowship program will provide Colorado, the nation, and the world with leaders of excellence in:
Education - through the provision of addiction medicine educational programs to medical students, allied health students, graduate students and house staff, practicing health professionals, and the public at large.
Research - through the development of new knowledge in the basic and clinical sciences, as well as in health policy and health care education.
Patient Care - through state-of-the-art clinical programs which reflect the unique educational environment of the University, as well as the needs of the patients it serves.
Community Service - through sharing the University's expertise and knowledge to enhance the broader community, including our affiliated institutions, other health care professionals, alumni and other colleagues, and citizens of the state.
The University of Colorado's Department of Family Medicine’s Addiction Medicine Fellowship holds as a core principle the advancement of health outcomes of all, bridging that gap when we fall short, and fostering a work environment that promotes belonging.
We believe we grow richer as a department by making sure we have a diverse and inclusive environment—treating every human with respect. This allows us to expand our consciousness by learning from each other, encouraging new knowledge and beliefs, and expanding our point of view. We are committed to attracting and training individuals whose varied backgrounds empower them to provide the best health care for their patients and communities.
The NEW Rural Addiction Medicine Fellowship at CU Anschutz offers a unique opportunity to train in the San Luis Valley, where beautiful mountain landscapes and a close-knit community create an exceptional place to live and work. Fellows gain diverse, hands-on experience across the full spectrum of addiction medicine—including outpatient, inpatient, methadone, residential treatment, harm reduction, and community-based care. The training is intentionally broad and immersive to prepare fellows in becoming versatile addiction medicine physicians. With abundant opportunities to care for patients with a wide range of substance use disorders in both urban and rural settings, fellows graduate as confident, well-rounded addiction medicine physicians prepared to make a meaningful impact wherever they practice.
The core curriculum includes clinical rotations in a longitudinal continuity clinic, a residential treatment program, an outpatient treatment program, medication assisted treatment programs, adolescent treatment programs, and an addiction medicine consultation-liaison service. Fellows also have protected time for elective study, didactics, and scholarly work.
