Neuromodulation

Our neurosurgeons use cutting-edge technology to restore lost neurological function and to prevent further functional declines in patients with movement disorders on the University of Colorado Anschutz campus.

Neuromodulation for Epilepsy & Movement Disorders

When patients with epilepsy or other disorders that disrupt function no longer respond to medication, neuromodulation may be considered to manage symptoms. Movement disorders can impact a person’s speed, speech, and ease of movement. When these symptoms impact a patient’s quality of life,

Multiple surgical procedures are available to patients at the University of Colorado Anschutz Movement Disorders Center for patients meeting certain criteria to manage motor symptoms caused by epilepsy, essential tremor, and Parkinson’s disease. Patients are first evaluated and referred by a neurologist.

What is neuromodulation?

Neuromodulation is the alteration of delivering targeted electrical stimulation or medication directly to a specific area in the brain. For over a decade, our neurosurgeons have worked with neurologists and researchers to develop ways to optimize this technology. The team utilizes cutting-edge technologies to treat patients with movement disorders, including adaptive deep brain stimulation (aDBS), high intensity focused ultrasound, and stereotactic radiosurgery.

Our team was the first to perform implanted brain computer interface surgery in the state of Colorado.

The Neuromodulation Team

Our Colorado neurosurgeons peform neuromodulation procedures at UCHealth on the CU Anschutz campus.
