Economic Impact, by the Numbers

(May 2, 2011) The School of Medicine and its neighbors on the Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora contribute to health care, education, research and the community—and also to the state's economy. In the last 10 years, state support for the medical school has fallen by nearly half. In that same period, private support of the medical school has picked up some of the slack, increasing from nearly $20 million a year to more than $28 million, according to the CU Foundation.

  • 14,500 Total jobs on the Anschutz campus, including University of Colorado Hospital and The Children’s Hospital
  • 14,000 to 20,000 Estimated additional Colorado jobs indirectly generated by the campus
  • $52 million Colorado general fund investments for all the schools on the campus, and infrastructure
  • $2.4 billion Total Anschutz Medical Campus budget
  • $5 billion Estimated campus impact on goods and services in Colorado
  • $19,615,174 The state appropriation for the medical school in 2001–02
  • $10,964,415 The budgeted state appropriation for the medical school this year
