Dr. Carol Rumack Donate $1M to Establish Endowed Fund for Public Health
Feb 10, 2025
Carol Rumack, MD, along with her husband Barry Rumack, MD, have made a bequest of $1 million to establish the Drs. Carol and Barry Rumack Endowed Fund for Public Health.
The Rumacks have dedicated more than 50 years of their professional lives to the University of Colorado through their research, teaching, administrative and clinical work. Additionally, they made a previous bequest of $1 million in 2017 to create the Barry and Carol Rumack Endowed Fund for Medical Education, which supports underrepresented students who might not otherwise be able to attend the School of Medicine due to financial constraints.
Dr. Carol Rumack serves as the associate dean for Graduate Medical Education and associate DIO at the CU Anschutz Medical Campus. She is a distinguished professor of radiology and pediatrics and has long been a pioneer in pediatric brain ultrasound. Dr. Rumack’s research interests include radiation dose reduction and educational issues in medical student, residency and fellowship training. She is also passionate about supporting women in medicine and public health.
Dr. Barry Rumack, a toxicologist and professor emeritus of emergency medicine and pediatrics, contributes greatly to the study of poisoning and antidote treatments through both CU Anschutz and the Rocky Mountain Poison Center as well as internationally with various government agencies. Dr. Rumack is also a firm believer that the subject of poisoning and its prevention should be addressed as part of public health.
This gift will support the Colorado School of Public Health, providing flexible resources for students who, without financial assistance, may not be able to attend the Colorado School of Public Health – this includes funding scholarships, awards, fellowships and other activities that advance public health for populations historically underrepresented in the field of public health. The fund will also support other programs within the school, such as leadership training and development, lectureships, junior to mid-career faculty support and participation in conferences or symposia. Drs. Carol and Barry Rumack’s ultimate goal is to foster a diverse student body and promote inclusion at the Colorado School of Public Health.
