Medical Students

The Department of Radiology is committed to the education of medical students, both those interested in careers in radiology, and those who will be pursuing careers in other areas of medicine. Medical imaging plays an ever increasing role in patient care and is an integral part of nearly all medical and surgical specialties. Knowledge of radiology and its use in contemporary medical practice is a vital part of medical education.

Radiology faculty are involved in all 4 years of medical education at the University of Colorado Denver School of Medicine. Faculty give didactic lectures, serve as preceptors in Foundations of Doctoring and mentors in the Mentored Scholarly Activity programs in addition to being small group facilitators in the Problem Based Learning curriculum.

The Department of Radiology also offers fourth year elective clerkships in Diagnostic Radiology, Nuclear Medicine, Interventional Radiology, and radiology research. These clerkships are offered to both University of Colorado medical students and visiting medical students from both Allopathic and Osteopathic medical schools.

The Radiology Medical Student Education Committee, in concert with the student-run Radiology Interest Group, is working to continually expand and improve medical student education in radiology. Current projects include a mentoring program for students who are considering becoming radiologists and a shadowing program that gives students a one-on-one opportunity with faculty and residents to experience life as a radiologist.
