Radiology Research

Welcome to Radiology Research at CU

Our mission is to advance radiology through innovative, collaborative, and rigorous research that transforms medical imaging into better patient care. We develop and translate new imaging technologies, quantitative methods, and data-driven approaches; bring state-of-the-art scanner to our campus; and train the next generation of imaging scientists and physician scientists. Through scientific excellence, shared research infrastructure, and meaningful partnerships, we strive to improve diagnosis, treatment, and health outcomes.

The CU Department of Radiology advances cutting-edge medical imaging and translational research through its Core Research Programs. The Colorado University Research Imaging Center (CU-RIC) leads advanced MRI, CT, PET/MRI, and PET/CT clinical trials alongside with a PET cGMP radiopharmaceutical production facility. The Advanced Imaging Lab (AIL) develops non-invasive cardiovascular and pediatric MRI methods at Children’s Hospital Colorado. The Quantitative Image Analysis Lab (QIA) provides expert study design, quantitative imaging, and image analysis services. The AI Medical Imaging Lab develops trustworthy AI, foundation models, and vision-language approaches for automated reporting and risk assessment. The Animal Imaging Irradiation Shared Resource (AIISR) provides state-of-the-art non-invasive imaging and irradiation technologies for animal research. Clinical imaging research conducted at the University of Colorado and UCHealth is approved and administered through the Department of Radiology.
