Stephen P. Ringel, M.D.
Department of Neurology: 1976-2017
Stephen P. Ringel, MD, earned his M.D. from the University of Michigan, and completed his Neurology Residency from Presbyterian-St. Luke's Hospital in Chicago and a postdoctoral fellowship with the NIH. He joined the Department of Neurology as Assistant Professor and Director of the Section of Neuromuscular Diseases in 1976. He has served as a past president of the American Academy of Neurology, and was a Founding Editor of Current Treatment in Neurology, Founding Associate Editor-in-Chief and Editor-in-Chief of Neurology Today, and Associate Editor of Neuromuscular Disorders. Dr. Ringel served as president of the University of Colorado Hospital (UCH) Medical Board and was the Hospital’s Vice President of Clinical Effectiveness and Patient Safety. He was named Professor Emeritus upon his retirement as Professor and Vice Chair of Neurology in 2017.
Inaugurated in 2016, the Steven P. Ringel Quality Improvement Award is presented to a senior Resident whose work exemplifies Dr. Ringel’s career-long commitment to quality improvement and patient safety.
