The University of Colorado offers a UCNS accredited fellowship in Behavioral Neurology & Neuropsychiatry for qualified physicians who have completed residency training in neurology or psychiatry. The program accepts one to two fellows per year.
Clinical work is completed primarily at the University of Colorado Hospital and the Denver VA. Clinical care and research programs at these two facilities are focused on chronic neurological conditions in which neurobehavioral and neuropsychiatric symptoms develop such as: traumatic brain injury, stroke, epilepsy, Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, and multiple sclerosis, among others. Fellows will also have the opportunity to complete rotations at the Colorado Mental Health Institute in Pueblo, CO and Fort Logan, CO where they can see a variety of psychiatric illnesses including: bipolar disorder, depression, schizophrenia, anxiety, and personality disorders. Patients at these two hospitals commonly have morbid medical and neurologic conditions while many of the inpatients at this facility are forensic.
The University of Colorado has two dedicated BN&NP conferences. The behavioral neurology lecture series is held weekly for 90 minutes with core faculty, fellows, and invited guests in attendance. The lecture series follows a structured curriculum based on the core topics identified in the program requirements. This conference also provides a forum for case discussions, journal club, and administrative needs of the program. There is a monthly BN&NP conference series that is open to faculty, fellows, residents, students, and other interested parties that hosts both University of Colorado and external speakers presenting on topics relevant to the field. In addition to these two BN&NP conferences, the Neurology department hosts a weekly grand rounds session.
The fellowship is offered by the Department of Neurology in collaboration with the Department of Psychiatry and accepts one to two fellows per year. Upon successful completion of this program, the fellow will be eligible and prepared for specialty board certification examination in Behavioral Neurology and Neuropsychiatry through the UCNS
