Thank you for your interest in the Behavioral Neurology & Neuropsychiatry fellowship at the University of Colorado! The fellowship is offered by the Department of Neurology in collaboration with the Department of Psychiatry and accepts one to two fellows per year. Upon successful completion of this program, the fellow will be eligible and prepared for specialty board certification examination in Behavioral Neurology and Neuropsychiatry through the UCNS. As the only academic medical center in the region, with a seven-state catchment area, our program benefits from broad expertise and serves diverse patient populations. Our Cognitive & Behavioral Neurology section is one of the largest groups of UCNS-certified specialists in the country, with seven core faculty members and multiple affiliated faculty members in Neurology, Psychiatry, Neuropsychology, and Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation. Each of our core faculty members has specific clinical and research expertise, covering all aspects of Behavioral Neurology & Neuropsychiatry.
Our clinical fellows primarily see patients within our CU Cognitive & Behavioral Neurology Clinic. There is extensive clinical exposure to cognitive evaluation, neurodegenerative diseases, traumatic brain injury, neurodevelopmental disorders, and neuropsychiatric disorders; approximately 4,500 unique patients are seen in our clinic annually. Subspecialty clinics under the Cognitive & Behavioral Clinic umbrella include the Advanced Therapies for Neurodegenerative Diseases Clinic, the Adult Neurodevelopmental Disabilities Clinic, the Healthy Brain Aging Clinic, and the Cognition and Movement Clinic. Elective time is also available in complementary clinical areas, including Movement Disorders, Autoimmune Neurology, Functional Neurological Disorders, Neuro-ophthalmology, Neurogenetics, and Neuroradiology.
We accept fellows from Neurology, Child Neurology, or Psychiatry residencies and boast a strong track record of successful graduates. Our fellowship is a 12-month clinically focused experience, though previous fellows with dedicated research funding have extended their fellowship to 24 months. Our fellows are encouraged to explore clinical research interests, with an array of opportunities to partner with our faculty on active observational and interventional research projects. Our campus is also home to the Colorado Clinical Translational Sciences Institute, which offers multiple training and funding opportunities for our fellows.
