The Christopher M. Filley Lectureship in Behavioral Neurology was established in 2024 to highlight the importance of Behavioral Neurology as a discipline devoted to the study of brain-behavior relationships in disease and health. After coming to the University of Colorado in 1984 as the first Behavioral Neurologist in its history, Dr. Filley founded the Behavioral Neurology Section in 1991 and served as its Director until 2024.

The Gilden Lectureship was established on the 2009 occasion marking Dr. Don Gilden’s years as Chair of Neurology (1985-2009), at which time he stepped down from the Chairship and remained a full-time, active faculty member until his passing in 2016. The lectureship highlights individuals with a strong science background translating to clinical applications.

The Frederick A. Horner, MD Visiting Professorship and Lectureship in Pediatric Neurology was established in 2022 by Mrs. Marjorie Horner, in memory of her husband. Dr. Horner served as Assistant Chief of Pediatrics at Fitzsimons Army Hospital (1951-1953), located on our current campus. At the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center, he was a trainee in Neurology and Instructor in Pediatrics from 1954-1956, and an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics (Neurology) from 1956-1961. Dr. Horner was then Founder and Chief of Pediatric Neurology and Professor and Professor Emeritus of Pediatrics and Neurology at the University of Rochester (1968-1985).

James Stephens, MD, served as the Head of Neurology, under the Department of Medicine, from 1953 until his passing in 1966. The Stephens Lectureship, established in his honor, features a visiting guest who teaches Neurology residents and delivers a Grand Rounds presentation.

The Ringel Lectureship was established to honor Dr. Steven Ringel, Professor Emeritus, upon his retirement from the University of Colorado in July, 2017. Dr. Ringel directed the Department of Neurology’s Neuromuscular Division from 1976-2017.

The lectureship was named for William L. Halseth, MD (1935-1991). Dr. Halseth graduated from the University of Colorado School of Medicine in 1962, and from Cardiovascular/Thoracic Surgery Residency in 1968. He was an Assistant Clinical Professor of Surgery at the University of Colorado.
