Headache Medicine Fellowship

Welcome to the Department of Neurology

Headache

Program Director: Danielle Wilhour, MD

The University of Colorado Headache Medicine Fellowship is a United Council for Neurological Subspecialties (UCNS) accredited, multidisciplinary program led by the Department of Adult Neurology, jointly with the Department of Child Neurology. Graduates from any ACGME accredited residency program may apply, regardless of the specialty, this includes Internal Medicine. The one-year program provides training in all aspects of diagnosis, treatment, and management for head and face pain disorders, both primary and secondary and cranial neuralgias. We are excited about the opportunity to train talented future headache specialists.

Training methods include hands-on patient care, predominantly in the Neurology Outpatient settings, as well as required and elective rotations including: Pain Psychology, Neuroradiology, Integrative Medicine, Concussion and Dizziness clinics. Formal didactics on relevant topics are provided by the program faculty. Fellows will become skilled in performing procedures specific for headache, such as Botox injections, trigeminal and occipital nerve blocks, sphenopalatine ganglion blocks and trigger point injections.

A Clinical Sciences Master and Doctoral program is available through the University of Colorado. This program is designed to accommodate the clinician's schedule, and provides training necessary for the candidate with scholastic career goals. The Colorado School of Public Health will provide formal training in clinical research methodology, augmenting that provided through the Clinical Sciences program.

Headache Medicine Fellows are encouraged to participate in one or more research projects, clinical or basic science, active at the University of Colorado Hospital (UCH)or affiliated institutions.
