Richard D. Wyant Endowed Award in Audiology

Background: The Richard D. Wyant Endowed Award in Audiology was established in 2022 to provide annual awards to undergraduate students, residents, fellows, or audiology graduate students in the Department of Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery within the University of Colorado School of Medicine. Preference will be given to recognize recipients who have demonstrated excellence in the field of audiology as well as exceptional humanism in all interactions with patients, peers, and inter-professional colleagues.

Recipients will receive a merit- and/or need-based award in the amount of $4,000 to be used toward furthering the field of audiology, with consideration given to students who have demonstrated resilience, perseverance, or commitment in the face of significant personal or academic challenges.

The Program is open to all applicants. Selection will consider applicants’ experiences, interests, and demonstrated commitment to improving access, quality, or outcomes in hearing healthcare, including service-oriented, community-based, or patient-focused work.

This award will be granted to an audiology student to carry out a clinically relevant project within audiology, working with a faculty mentor of their choice to develop the diversity initiative proposal (e.g., developing brochures and patient materials in multiple languages). It is expected that this initiative will have some concrete outcomes (e.g., educational/awareness event, creation of patient education materials, process improvement). In addition, students will be expected to present their work at a regional or national conference. Audiology students from the University of Colorado (CU) - Boulder (years 2-4) and audiology externs at the University of Colorado Hospital (UCH) are eligible to apply for this award.

• Application should submit a cover letter, CV, and a support letter to Dr. Vinaya Manchaiah ([email protected]) by 02/15/2026.

• Cover letter (2-page limit) describing why they should be considered for this award. They are encouraged to briefly discuss the project they want to work on, although it is optional. They can choose the faculty mentor at a later stage.

• Support letters can be provided by the applicant’s teachers/professor or the faculty mentor.

• Applications will be reviewed by a committee comprised of the departmental, clinic, and program leadership. Scholarship decisions will be provided by by 02/27/2026.
