MacLean Lab Core

​Dr. Paul MacLean joined the faculty at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus in 2001 after receiving his BS and MS from Brigham Young University and a PhD from East Carolina University. He is now a tenured Professor of Medicine and Pathology with 25 years of experience studying obesity and its metabolic complications with research focuses in the biological drivers of weight regain after weight loss, exercise as a strategy for weight loss maintenance, and understanding how obesity affects key aspects of women’s health.

His research in women’s health has included studies of mammary gland development and its function during lactation, perinatal metabolic programming, the menopausal transition, and the risk for breast cancer. Dr. MacLean is supported by the National Institutes of Health (where he serves as Co-Chair for the ADOPT Core Measures Project), with grants from NIDDK, NICHD, and NCI. He is dedicated to building and supporting the broader research and educational enterprise on the Anschutz Medical Campus through the Colorado Nutrition Obesity Research Center, the Colorado Clinical Translational Science Institute, and the University of Colorado Cancer Center.

Among many other positions and appointments, Dr. MacLean serves as the Director of the Nutrition Obesity Research Center and its’ Energy Balance Assessment Core, the Director of Research and Education Integration for the Anschutz Health and Wellness Center, the Co-Director for the PreK Program with the Colorado Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute and the Chair of the Science Development Committee for The Obesity Society.
