Advanced Cardiovascular Imaging Fellowship
The University of Colorado offers an Advanced Cardiovascular Imaging Fellowship, a one-year training program designed to develop advanced expertise across the spectrum of cardiovascular imaging, including cardiac computed tomography (CT), cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (CMR), nuclear cardiology, and echocardiography (echo). Fellows receive comprehensive, high-volume training tailored to their background and career goals.
The fellowship emphasizes multimodality integration in accordance with ACC training guidance. In most cases, fellows are supported in achieving Level III COCATS competency in approximately two imaging modalities, determined in collaboration with program leadership at the start of training. Additional exposure to other modalities is incorporated based on educational priorities and program capacity. Opportunities may include cardiac PET/CT, SPECT, and advanced echocardiography.
The University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus is the largest tertiary care academic center in the Mountain Region. Fellows train alongside a multidisciplinary faculty that includes Level III–trained cardiac CT/MR cardiologists and cardiothoracic radiologists. The program is supported by dedicated, state-of-the-art CT and MR scanners with specialized technologists.
Fellows are exposed to high-volume, high-complexity imaging across the full spectrum of cardiovascular disease, including coronary and structural heart disease, congenital heart disease, vascular imaging, cardiomyopathies, cardio-oncology, and general cardiovascular imaging.
The Advanced Cardiovascular Imaging Fellowship at the University of Colorado, like similar programs nationwide, is not ACGME-accredited. Accordingly, fellows are appointed as Clinical Instructors at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. Graduates are well prepared for leadership roles in advanced cardiovascular imaging and are eligible for national certification examinations, including the Certification Board of Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (CBCMR) and the Certification Board of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography (CBCCT).
