The philosophy of the division of cardiology is that clinical research is intimately linked to excellence in clinical care. As a reflection of this, the division has a long and vibrant history of clinical investigation. This tradition continues and the division is home to multiple on-going studies (both investigator initiated and industry and government sponsored) that encompass the entirety of clinical cardiology. These include research studies in outcomes and comparative effectiveness, congestive heart failure, transplantation and mechanical support, structural heart disease, electrophysiology , imaging, peripheral vascular disease, gene and cell based therapy, pulmonary hypertension, as well as multiple other areas. The division is home to a 3D lab focused on image reconstruction of complex structure heart disease, the CVP, a multi-investigator research effort focused on the pulmonary vasculature, and is affiliated with the CUCVI, a translational research institute that links the Boulder campus with the Anschutz Medical campus and the Center for Women’s Health, a multidisciplinary program that is committed to defining unique women’s health issues particularly those involving the heart and vasculature.
