Catherine (Katie) G. Derington, PharmD, MS, is a board‐certified clinical pharmacist and early-stage investigator specializing in cardiovascular outcomes research. She earned her Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Colorado Skaggs School of Pharmacy, completed a residency in pharmacy practice at The Ohio State University, and further advanced her training with a Master’s in Clinical Science and a fellowship in outcomes research from the University of Colorado and Kaiser Permanente Colorado. In her current role as a tenure-track assistant professor at the University of Colorado School of Medicine, her research program focuses on three areas: (1) leveraging secondary datasets—from clinical trials to administrative claims—to optimize cardiovascular prevention and treatment; (2) identifying and addressing gaps to improve cardiovascular care delivery; and (3) improving methods to accurately identify medication exposures and outcomes for pharmacoepidemiologic analyses. Her research aims to simplify cardiovascular care, ensuring medication access and use are not barriers to living a happy and healthy life.
