Research:My focus is understanding the mechanisms of selection for oncogenic mutations in the hematopoietic system. I have two main areas of interest: how aging and its associated chronic inflammation affect the fitness of normal cells and cells bearing oncogenic mutations and how these effects can potentially be manipulated to halt or revert carcinogenesis; the second focus is characterizing the effects of chemotherapy vs targeted therapies (e.g. Venetoclax/Azacitidine) in models of acute myeloid leukemia in order to understand the reasons for resistance/relapse.
