The Space Health Sciences Program at the University of Colorado is dedicated to advancing human health and performance for the next era of space exploration. As space becomes more accessible to private citizens and commercial travelers—and as we prepare for sustained missions to the Moon and Mars—new challenges emerge at the intersection of medicine, engineering, and human performance.
Our mission is to develop the knowledge, technologies, and training necessary to keep humans healthy in space and in other complex, extreme, and remote environments. By uniting the CU School of Medicine’s nationally recognized expertise in wilderness and austere medicine with CU Boulder’s premier Department of Aerospace Engineering Sciences—one of the top programs in the country—we foster truly interdisciplinary collaboration that bridges medicine and engineering to address the real-world demands of human spaceflight.
Through research, education, and operational partnerships, we aim to train the next generation of physician-engineers, scientists, and innovators who will enable safe, sustainable exploration beyond Earth. Together, our work at the University of Colorado is shaping the future of human health in space and bringing those lessons home to benefit life on Earth.
