The new University of Colorado Hospital (UCH) ED opened in April 2013. Designed to be patient-centered to provide state-of-the-art emergency care in a modern facility, the ED serves as an international model for excellence.

Emergency Medicine faculty are integral members of the Virtual Health Center team, allowing community-based hospital care teams and clinics to access specialty care remotely.

These providers can observe patients through the use of highly sensitive cameras and speakers in a patient’s room. Complex algorithms continuously evaluate a patient’s condition and alert the Virtual Health Center when readings indicate possible problems. The Virtual Health Center team then confers with the care team at the patient bedside.

The Virtual Health Center care team provides surveillance and monitoring for stroke, trauma, sepsis, and other high-acuity conditions.

Established in 2019, Highlands Ranch Hospital is an 87-bed acute care hospital providing care for the communities of Highlands Ranch, Littleton, Roxborough, Sterling Ranch, Ken Caryl and Columbine. The 22-bed ED is growing in volume and is recognized as a Level III Trauma Center.

Broomfield Hospital is a 40-bed community hospital serving Broomfield, Westminster, Boulder and surrounding communities. It opened in 2016 with a 9-bed ED and is poised to grow with the community. Faculty also staff 6 Metro Denver freestanding EDs, which average 8 beds each and have full 24/7 imaging, laboratory, and emergency care capabilities.

Denver Health was the first Level 1 Trauma Center in the state of Colorado and the only Level 1 Trauma center in the city of Denver. Denver Health is one of the nation’s leading Level 1 Trauma Centers, with one of the highest survival rates in the country for the most severe injuries.
