Who We Are

The Firearm Injury Prevention Initiative strives to prevent firearm-related injuries and deaths in homes and communities across Colorado and the U.S. through collaboration, research, and education. We are committed to an approach rooted in:

  • Recognition of a common goal of health and security,
  • Respect for diversity and consideration of a range of views, and
  • Engagement of impacted communities and those with lived experiences

What's New

FIPI Founding Director Inducted into the National Academy of Medicine

FIPI Founding Director, Emmy Betz, MD, MPH, was one of one hundred members inducted into the National Academy of Medicine (NAM) during the NAM Annual Meeting this October. Betz was recognized for her firearms and suicide prevention expertise and engagement with community members, including gun owners and retailers, in developing interventions to save lives and injuries. FIPI Receives “Outstanding Research Accomplishment Team Award”

The FIPI team was awarded the 2024 Military Health System Research Symposium Outstanding Research Accomplishment Team Award for the initiative’s dedication to collaboratively using evidence-based approaches in finding solutions to prevent firearm injuries and deaths, with a specific focus on suicide in the military. for the initiative’s dedication to collaboratively using evidence-based approaches in finding solutions to prevent firearm injuries and deaths, with a specific focus on suicide in the military. FIPI Firearm Business Office Hours

Join FIPI for virtual office hours hosted by firearm industry partners and experienced secure storage program facilitators. These sessions are open to any firearm business (shooting ranges, retailers, instructors, etc.) interested in secure storage and/or suicide prevention education or services (on-site storage, distributing devices).

These sessions occur monthly:

  • First Thursdays at 11 A.M. MST
  • Third Wednesdays at 11 A.M. MST

Advanced registration is requested, RSVP online.
