Dr. Carmen Lewis is an Associate Professor at the University of Colorado School of Medicine in the Division of General Internal Medicine. She is a practicing general internists and a health services researcher. She completed her Masters in Public Health in Epidemiology and a Residency in Preventive Medicine at the University of North Carolina. Her current and past research includes broad areas of medical decision making, preventive care and cancer screening, and health care quality. Dr. Lewis has developed decision support for patients and physicians and has evaluated methods to implement decision support into ambulatory practices. She has been funded by the National Cancer Institute through a K07 career development award and two R21 grants through AHRQ studying individualized decision making for colorectal cancer screening in the elderly. She recently completing a randomized controlled trial funded through AHRQ aimed at promoting appropriate colon cancer screening using a targeted decision aid for elderly adults. She was also a co-principal investigator on an ARRA award through Health and Human Services to test three methods of implementing decision support on prostate cancer screening and treatment decision making.
