• Grant proposal development workshop for faculty actively developing NIH R01 or equivalent proposals (VA/DOD included) for submission.
• This 'writing retreat' style workshop emphasizes strong grantsmanship and clear communication to help you develop a strong proposal, ready for submission. Includes dedicated writing time, peer support and detailed feedback from grant writing experts and senior faculty in the CU Anschutz Department of Medicine.
• Topics include specific components of the proposal: the Specific Aims page, Significance, Innovation, Approach, Introduction (for resubmissions), and the Biosketch.
• Led by Jennifer Kemp, PhD, Director of DOM Research Office, with expert input from senior DOM faculty and leaders.

In-person discussion and Q&A with experts providing insights on how to most effectively write grant applications. Online learning is assigned in advance asynchronously from the well-regarded Coursera courses hosted by the CCTSI. Followed by in-person discussion and small group chats with prominent guests or established researchers known for their subject matter expertise. Let us answer your questions LIVE.

Research grant proposal development seminars focus on the most important aspects of grant writing to help develop strong proposals for NIH and other funding agencies.

Topics include:

1. Specific Aims Page: Writing a compelling specific aims page for NIH and other funding agencies

2. The Research Plan: Writing a strong research plan, conveying significance and innovation

3. Resubmissions: Writing a responsive revised application in response to reviewer feedback.

4. Other Critical Grant Elements: Biosketches, letters of support, and other small but important sections to tell your story and highlight your strengths.

Attend one or as many of the five seminars as you choose.

• Open to all DOM researchers with no application or pre-registration required.
• Seminars led by Jennifer Kemp, PhD, Director of DOM Research Office.

Two-session grant writing workshop focused on developing outstanding Specific AIMS pages for applying to external grant funding agencies such as the NIH.

Session 1: next date, time and location to be announced

Didactic presentation, including best practices for writing a compelling specific aims page, followed by discussion time followed by discussion time in breakout groups K or R grant mechanisms. Participants will learn:

1. How to grab the reviewers' attention and stand out from the pack.
2. How to tell your story.
3. Advice on how to structure this critical 1 page overview of your proposal.
4. Critical elements to include on the aims page.
5. Common mistakes to avoid.

Session 2: next date, time and location to be announced

The second session will be an interactive workshop format, in which we will critique each other's specific aims pages and work to improve them (3-4 hours).

• This 2-session workshop is open to all CU Anschutz DOM faculty. Space is limited, and those working on their first or second R01 or R01-equivalent proposal will be prioritized for admission.
• Registration is required and space is limited.
• Led by Jennifer Kemp, PhD, Director of DOM Research Office, Kristine Erlandson, MD, Division of Infectious Disease, and Paul MacLean, PhD, Division of Endocrinology

Monthly research meetings for division administrators and staff to stay updated on campus processes, policy changes, federal sponsor updates, and best practices. Topics include financial management training, pre- and post-award support, and campus resources. Meetings are held via zoom on the first Thursday of every month. The Clinical Research Workforce Development initiative through the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research supports the connectivity, training and career development of clinical research professionals at CU Anschutz.
