Clinical Pathology Resident
  • Clinical Pathology

Richard Revia, MD, PhD, is a clinical pathology resident in the Department of Pathology at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. His clinical interests are in clinical chemistry, point-of-care testing, and coagulation, with particular emphasis on assay validation and verification, method correlation and troubleshooting, laboratory test utilization management, and laboratory informatics.
Before medicine, Dr. Revia completed a PhD in materials science and engineering at the University of Washington and an MS in electrical engineering at Montana State University. His graduate research centered on the design and characterization of measurement instruments and on nanomaterials for diagnostic imaging and drug delivery. He has published more than twenty-five peer-reviewed articles and holds a United States patent.
During residency he has investigated discordant bicarbonate results between blood gas and chemistry analyzers, compared post-transfusion platelet responses across apheresis collection thresholds, reviewed institutional compliance with transfusion guidelines, and conducted a utilization review of Group O negative red blood cell inventory. He designed and built the residency program's intranet portal, a centralized resource for departmental and resident-generated educational material. He completed the College of American Pathologists' Laboratory Medical Direction program in 2026.
