HPV Education and Patient Navigation Project
The Human Papillomavirus (HPV)
HPV is a common virus that can cause several kinds of cancer including cervical, vaginal, vulvar, penile, anal and throat cancers. HPV causes over 90% of cervical cancers. Overall, it causes 3% of all cancer cases among women and 2% of all cancer cases among men in the United States. In Colorado, around 469 people are diagnosed with HPV-associated cancers each year. The HPV vaccine can prevent over 90% of cervical cancers and greatly reduce risk of other cancers caused by HPV.
What is the project?
The Office of Community Outreach and Engagement (COE) is collaborating with Denver Health Hospital and Authority to increase the rate of HPV vaccination to prevent cancers caused by HPV. COE is conducting an educational and patient navigation program for eligible Denver Health patients to educate patients about HPV and cancer risk, and help patients make appointments to get the vaccine.
Who is it for?
We are offering our HPV educational program and help with making appointments to get the vaccine to parents who have adolescent children (9-17) seen at Denver Health, and to young adult patients of Denver Health (age 18-26).
What will I be asked to do?
- Watch short educational videos about HPV and the HPV vaccine (~10 minutes)
- Complete a short survey after watching the video (~10 minute-15 minutes)

Compensation
A $25 gift card will be provided for participants who complete the post education survey.
