The University of Colorado Anschutz Cancer Center is pleased to offer pilot grant funding to support the development of exceptional research projects leading to the ultimate conquest of cancer and furthering cancer center objectives.
The purpose of this RFA is to stimulate impactful translational, clinical, or basic science research projects that have the potential to advance understanding, treatment, or prevention of ovarian cancer. There are two award types:
Collaborative Pilot Grant
Eligibility: supports research involving two or more co-PIs (one of whom must be a Cancer Center member) focused on ovarian cancer that has a high likelihood of leading to a multi-PI NIH or other national grant submission within 15-18 months of award start.
Duration: 24 months, beginning July 1, 2026.
Amount: Request may be up to $100,000.
Team Science Awards
Eligibility: support the development of ovarian cancer-focused team science grants such as large multi-PI R01 (>$250K directs/yr), P, U or other multi-project team grants offered by a national-level sponsor. The proposal must involve three or more investigators (one of whom must be a Cancer Center member), each providing substantive contributions to the proposed research.
Duration: 24 months, beginning July 1, 2026.
Amount: Request may be up to $100,000.

Fall Grant Cycle
The following categories are available in the Fall Cycle:
Infrastructure Grant: These grants are not for a specific research project, but rather for personnel (i.e., a clinical research associate) or resources to allow more research to be done. Eligibility: Applicants should hold at least an MD/DO or PhD degree by the award date. Duration: One (1) year. Amount: $25,000-$50,000.
Fellowship Award: This grant support two years of pediatric oncology fellowship training for applicants in their 2nd or 3rd year of pediatric oncology fellowship. Eligibility: Applicants should hold an MD or DO degree by the award date. Applicants may not hold an appointment of assistant professor or above. Applicants must have a fellowship mentor who provides supervision, facilities, and research support. Duration: Two (2) years, with an opportunity for one (1) additional year. Funding: Total award capped at $97,500 per year. All Fellow awards are to cover salary and benefits only.
The CU Anschutz Cancer Center may submit one (1) nomination per award category.

Internal LOI deadline: 5 pm MT on Friday, April 3, 2026.
This award supports early‑career, tenure‑track faculty who are building their careers in cancer research. Funding is intended for projects grounded in either fundamental laboratory-based science or translational research. The V Scholar mechanism focuses on any adult cancer type research that is exploratory or translational in nature. Areas outside the scope of this program include epidemiology, behavioral science, and health services research.
Eligibility: Applicants must hold a full‑time tenure‑track faculty appointment and must have been appointed to their first full‑time Assistant Professor position no more than five years prior to the nomination due date (June 2026). Applicants must not be current or previous V Scholar nominees and must not have accepted or received notice of an R01 or R01‑equivalent award. All applicants must complete and submit the V Scholar Financial worksheet (linked below) with their internal LOI submission.
Duration: Four (4) years; earliest possible start date is October 2026.
Amount: $800,000, paid in $200,000 installments. No indirect costs allowed.
