The Herrmann Lab

Lab Mission

Dr. Herrmann is a Pediatric Otolaryngologist at Children’s Hospital Colorado who, in collaboration with the Department of Bioengineering, works to enhance diagnostic and therapeutic tools used for clinical assessment and surgical treatment of pediatric head and neck disease.

Collaborations and Tools

Dr. Herrmann combines his surgical expertise with undergraduate and graduate students’ engineering skills to develop new and/or improved approaches to improve surgical outcomes.  This may involve innovating surgical instrumentation, developing new technology to assess clinical problems, and creating novel methods to avoid postoperative complications.  Utilizing resources from both the Departments of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery and Bioengineering, the goal of this work is to address clinical problems that are currently without successful solutions.

Work We Do

Current projects include:

  • Adaptable endotracheal tube design
  • Selectively resorbable middle ear stents
  • Intraoperatively adaptable surgical instrumentation
  • Aerosol mitigation devices to minimize COVID 19 risk during adenotonsillectomy
  • Endoscopic dimensional imaging
