Expectations and Responsibilities

What You Can Expect from RITTC

The RNA Informatics, Technologies, and Therapies Core (RITTC) is committed to providing high-quality sequencing services, bioinformatics analysis, and scientific consultation.

Investigators can expect:

  • Guidance during project planning and experimental design.

  • Clear communication regarding sample requirements, timelines, and deliverables.

  • Quality control assessment of submitted samples, libraries, and sequencing data.

  • Early notification if sample quality, library quality, or sequencing results indicate potential issues that may affect project outcomes.

  • Standard bioinformatics processing and reporting for all end-to-end sequencing services.

  • Timely completion of agreed-upon deliverables, dependent on sample quality and project scope.

  • Assistance with methods descriptions for grants, manuscripts, and presentations when requested.

  • Open communication regarding project status, analysis progress, and technical concerns.

Expectations of Investigators

To ensure successful project completion, investigators are expected to:

  • Participate in the initial consultation to discuss project goals, experimental design, and sample requirements.

  • Submit samples that meet the quantity, quality, labeling, and metadata requirements described in the sample submission guidelines.

  • Respond promptly to requests for clarification, QC review, or sequencing approval when applicable.

  • Maintain copies of all delivered data and analysis results.

  • Communicate any concerns regarding project deliverables as early as possible so that issues can be addressed collaboratively.

Publications, Acknowledgements, and Authorship

We are proud to support research performed by our investigators and collaborators.

Publications resulting from work supported by RITTC should acknowledge the contribution of the core facility. Recommended acknowledgement language will be provided as funding mechanisms and institutional requirements evolve.

Authorship and acknowledgement should follow established scientific and NIH guidelines. When core personnel make substantial intellectual contributions to project design, analysis strategy, interpretation of results, or manuscript preparation, co-authorship may be appropriate and will be discussed collaboratively with investigators.

We ask that investigators notify the core of publications, presentations, preprints, or other scholarly products resulting from RITTC-supported projects so that we may track research impact and feature these works on our website.

Data Retention and Repository Submission

RITTC is committed to supporting reproducible research and long-term accessibility of project data.

For projects processed through the core, raw sequencing data, analysis results, and project deliverables will be retained by RITTC for a minimum of six months following project completion. During this period, investigators will have access to project data and may request additional copies if needed.

Following the six-month retention period, RITTC plans to assist with deposition of sequencing data into an appropriate public repository, such as GEO, when applicable. Data submissions will typically be placed under embargo for up to two years, allowing investigators sufficient time to publish and disseminate their findings prior to public release.

After repository submission and expiration of the embargo period, long-term responsibility for maintaining project data rests with the investigator.

RITTC is happy to assist investigators with repository submissions, metadata preparation, and compliance with journal or funding agency data-sharing requirements.

Project Repositories

Each project will be provided with a dedicated GitHub repository containing project documentation, analysis code, quality control reports, summary results, and other project deliverables as appropriate.

Project repositories will remain private by default. Upon request from the investigator, repositories may be made public to support publication, reproducibility, collaboration, or community resource sharing.

Public release of project repositories will only occur with investigator approval.
