Nov 3, 2021The University of Colorado Physical Therapy Program (CU PT) welcomes Anthony “Toby” Kinney, PT, DPT, OCS, FAAOMPT, MBA, PhD(c) as a Senior Instructor effective November 1, 2021.
“We're excited to have Dr. Kinney join the CU PT faculty,” said Program Director Michael Harris-Love, PT, MPT, DSc, FGSA. “Not only is he a skilled orthopedic physical therapist, but he also has previous experience as a faculty member and is well versed in our musculoskeletal curriculum."
Kinney has extensive orthopedic physical therapy experience in hospital-based and private practice settings. He has been involved in physical therapy education since 2007, initially working as a lab instructor at Touro College in New York. He made the transition full-time to academics as a Clinical Assistant Professor with Sacred Heart University in 2010, then the University of Montana (2011-2015). “Over the last five years, I have been fortunate to work part-time with the talented, student-centered CU PT faculty,” noted Kinney. “I am delighted to transition to core CU faculty and contribute on a more consistent basis to educating exceptional student physical therapists.”
Kinney’s expertise is in orthopedic physical therapy, post-concussion rehabilitation and using video assessment for clinician development. His interest in best practices in educational curriculum, assessment, and delivery led him to pursue a Doctor of Philosophy in Health Professions Education. He expects to complete his Ph.D. in 2023.
He obtained his Master of Science in Physical Therapy from New York Medical College, a Master of Business Administration from Duke University, and a Post-Professional Doctor of Physical Therapy from Washington University. Kinney completed a Fellowship in Manual Physical Therapy at Regis University.
