Mobility Matters

A National Think Tank on Older Adult Mobility

Conference #1: September 23-24, 2026

University of Colorado Anschutz

Mobility Matters: Advancing policy, research, clinical innovation, and scalable solutions to improve mobility outcomes in Skilled Nursing Facilities

Mobility Matters is a national, interdisciplinary initiative bringing together leaders in research, health policy, clinical care, industry innovation, and patient advocacy to address one of the most pressing challenges in aging care: restoring and sustaining mobility for older adults in Skilled Nursing Facilities (SNFs).

What is the Mobility Matters Conference?

The Mobility Matters Conference Series functions as a working think tank that brings together leader to align evidence, implementation science, policy reform, workforce strategy, and technology innovation to improve functional recovery, independence, and quality of life for those living in skilled nursing facilities. Participants engage in collaborative problem-solving, strategic planning, and innovation grounded in research and real-world practice.

Why Mobility Matters?

Mobility decline is a major driver of rehospitalization, long-term institutionalization, rising healthcare costs, and significant emotional and practical strain on individuals and families. At the same time, shifts toward greater value-based care, workforce challenges, and emerging technologies are transforming how rehabilitation and mobility-related care are delivered and experienced.
