MEDLINE:

• Produced and updated daily by the National Library of Medicine (NLM)
• The online successor to the print Cumulated Index Medicus
  Database containing about 13 million bibliographic citations dating back to 1966
• Indexes primarily English-language biomedical literature from around the world.
• Indexes approximately 4,959 journals with Medical Subject Headings (MeSH)
• Uses the Entrez search engine
• Freely available to anyone via PubMed
• Available via paid subscription from commercial vendors like Ovid and FirstSearch

Ovid:

• Commercial vendor of databases and full text journals from various publishers
• Leases institutional access to databases including MEDLINE, OLDMEDLINE, and MEDLINE In-Process Citations, as well as commercial databases such as PsycInfo, CINAHL, International Pharmaceutical Abstracts, and Cochrane Systematic Reviews
• Leases institutional access to full text journals from various publishers (Journals@Ovid)
• Developed and uses its own proprietary Ovid search interface
• Access is limited to UC Denver/UCH faculty, staff, and students and other subscribers

PubMed:

• Consists of three bibliographic databases: MEDLINE: Citations indexed with MeSH terms dating back to 1966 (see above); OLDMEDLINE: Pre-1966 citations currently extending back to 1950; In-Process Citations: Recently added citations that have not yet been indexed
• Provides links to full-text journal articles from independent publishers
• Uses the Entrez search engine which also searches genetic and molecular biology databases like Nucleotide and Protein Sequences, Complete Genomes, and OMIM
• Was developed and is maintained by the National Center for Biotechnology Information, a division of the National Library of Medicine at the National Institutes of Health
• Access is freely available to everyone
