The CU Physical Therapy Program congratulates Amy McDevitt, PT, DPT, OCS, FAAOMPT, on her recent appointment as Section Director of Curriculum and Musculoskeletal Track Coordinator. As Section Director of Curriculum, her role will be to lead the curriculum committee in making recommendations surrounding current and future curricular initiatives and advances for the CU Physical Therapy Program. As Musculoskeletal Track Coordinator, Dr. McDevitt will oversee the four musculoskeletal courses and faculty who teach in these courses while also integrating concepts of contemporary, evidence based orthopedic practice. Prior to stepping into these roles, Dr. Dan Malone was the most recent Section Director of the Curriculum and Dr. Paul Mintken, who recently retired, was the Musculoskeletal Track Coordinator for 18 years.

Dr. McDevitt joined the CU Physical Therapy faculty in 2009 as a clinical faculty member assisting part-time in the musculoskeletal track courses. In 2012, she moved into a full-time faculty position and was responsible for coordinating foundational track courses (Examination and Evaluation and Foundations of Intervention) and the Manual Therapy/Manipulation elective, while also continuing to teach in the Musculoskeletal Track courses. Dr. McDevitt was on the faculty during the last major curricular revision and has taught in several courses throughout the curriculum across all levels of student learner. She is interested in assuring that the CU Physical Therapy Program maintains a strong presence on the cutting edge of contemporary learning theory practices by integrating best evidence for teaching, learning and assessment.

Dr. McDevitt practices clinically which affords her perspective on the challenges our students will face in clinical practice and in the current healthcare environment. Her work in educational scholarship has focused on understanding clinical reasoning in student learners which is a crucial skillset in patient care. She has served on several CU Physical Therapy Program committees and national organizations, including the APTA and AAOMPT, which have provided her with context for where DPT curriculum, (including musculoskeletal curriculum), will need to evolve to optimally serve the next generation of learners and their future patients. In addition, Dr. McDevitt completed the Academy of Medical Educators Teaching Scholars Program in 2016, which focuses on curriculum development, and in 2021 she was selected as a member of the CU Anschutz Campus Academy of Medical Educators. This wealth of experience and skills makes Dr. McDevitt well-suited for her new role.

I have had incredible mentors who over the past 12 years who have provided me with a wealth of knowledge and guidance on how to grow as an educator and leader in the CU Physical Therapy Program,” says Dr. McDevitt. “I enjoy change and challenge, and l am looking forward to engaging in these leadership roles to continue to grow personally and professionally while concurrently contributing to the CUPT Program as we anticipate future curricular change initiatives and growth.”
